It’s Time to go Green:  RECYCLE – REDUCE – REUSE 

Office Waste

When you think about the enormous benefit of paper, it’s clear that we must all continue to work together by recycling used paper. Recycling is easy to do.

The next time you read the paper, clean out your files or desk, open your mail, or empty a box, don’t put that paper and paperboard packaging in the trash.  Complete the circle and recycle.

Today, paper is made from trees mostly grown on working forests and from recovered paper. Recycling has always been a part of paper making. When you recycle your used paper, papermills will use it to make new newspapers, notebook paper, paper grocery bags, corrugated boxes, envelopes, magazines, cartons,and other paper products.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 41 percent of solid waste is paper.  Eighty percent of solid waste in your office is made up of paper.  This paper includes writing and copy machine paper, any type of  computer paper, white or colored, envelopes, and junk mail.  A good rule of thumb would be any type of paper that is on your desk.

It is time to go GREEN.  Have your employees start recycling this paper and keep it out of the landfill.  Set aside one day a week or month to bring Waste Paper to the Recycling plant at Howard County Children’s Center.  The Office Waste Recycle bin is located at the loading dock of the Recycling Area.  A sign has been placed in the designated area for your convenience.

Computer Paper
Notebook paper
Envelopes
Magazines, pamphlets, brochures, phone books,
White and colored ledger paper.
Junk mail
File folders
Basically any type of paper except construction paper
Please do not place paper towels, tissues, or food products in bin

 

Think about it like this: Recycling one ton of paper would:

 • Save enough energy to power the average American home for 6 months
 • Save 7,000 gallons of water and 17 trees
 • Save 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space

 

It is our responsibility to take care of our environment.  Recycling helps the environment by recovering valuable resources and turning them into new products we use every day.
